Sandra Drucilla Hodge

Deputy sheriff was search, rescue diver in Virginia


---- — Sandra Drucilla Hodge of state Route 18, New Wilmington, died Sunday afternoon (7-21-13) in the hospital of Sharon Regional Health System. She was 72.

Mrs. Hodge was born April 15, 1941, in Chattanooga, Tenn., to Johnnie C. Williams Mashburn.

Sandra retired as a deputy sheriff in Chesapeake and Portsmouth, both Va. She was the first female certified search and rescue diver for the state of Virginia.

Sandra married Samuel Plumb Sr., then subsequently, married William E. Hodge in 1976, who preceded her in death in December 1983.

Survivors include: her son, Samuel Boyd Plumb Jr., Sharon; three daughters, Kelly C. Hodge, New Castle; Angela Ettamarie Hemmings, El Paso, Texas; and Terrie L. Davis, Stevens Point, Wis.; a sister, Priscilla Scott, El Paso; 12 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Besides her husband, William, she was preceded in death by her parents.

Calling hours: 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday (7-25-13) in SMITH FUNERAL HOME, 310 W. Neshannock Ave., New Wilmington.

Service: Services at 11 a.m. Friday (7-26-13) in the funeral home.

Interment: Will follow the funeral service Fair Oaks Cemetery, New Wilmington.
