Glenn Howard Cooper

B&LE retiree was Mason, WWII vet, raised horses

- — Glenn Howard Cooper of Adamsville passed away at 6:20 a.m. Saturday (6-28-14) in White Cliff Rehabilitation Center, Greenville. He was 93.

Mr. Cooper was born in Brookfield on March 26, 1921, to Clarence Jay and Myrtle Bell Cooper.

He was a 1939 graduate of Brookfield High School and as a youth he was very active in 4-H. He loved farming and cows and his calf “Tiny” went to the highest level of 4-H, winning many awards including first-place Guernsey calf.

After graduation Glenn worked at General American in Masury until World War II was declared and, on Dec. 9, 1942, he enlisted in the Navy. He completed his basic training at USNTS in Great Lakes, Ill.

He was sent to the Philadelphia Burner School before being sent to Boston where he became a plank owner of the famous U.S.S. Bunker Hill. He would later became a plank owner of the U.S.S. Los Angeles and spent a total of four years in the Pacific area during the terrible battles we all heard about. For his devoted services he received many medals and commendations.

Glenn was employed as diesel electrician on the track equipment of Bessemer & Lake Erie Railroad for nearly 30 years, retiring in 1983.

He was a member of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, Greenville; and was a member for more than 65 years of Free and Accepted Masons Jerusalem Lodge 19 in Hartford.

Glenn was well-known for his raising and showing of his prize Percheron draft horses.

He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Norman A. and Clyde B. Cooper.

He is survived by his wife, the former Nancy Jane Looser, whom he married in Greenville on Aug. 26, 1950. He is also survived by a son, Lawrence Edward Cooper and his wife Robin, Greenville; a daughter, Eleanor Ann Cooper Neff and her husband Dennis, Westover, Pa.; three grandsons, Brandon P. Cooper and his wife Jennifer, Pittsburgh; and Christopher Edward Neff and Dustin Michael Neff, both Westover; two lovely great-granddaughters, Kristen Riley Cooper and Charlotte Jane Cooper; a brother, Harold E. Cooper and his wife Rose, Brookfield; two favorite nieces, Patricia Cooper Woods and Patricia S. Cooper; and three special nephews, Bill, Jack and Douglas Looser.
