Betty J. Craig

Brookfield woman worked in school cafeterias

- — Betty J. Craig formerly of Brookfield, passed away peacefully Monday morning (6-30-14) at Beacon Ridge Nursing Home in Indiana, Pa. She was 92.

She was born in Sydney, Pa., the daughter of Orrie L. and Violet Fisher Bowman on May 24, 1922. She married Delmar Preston “Pres” Craig on Jan. 17, 1940, and together they had three children, Martin “Lee,” Delmar “Rusty” and Karen Craig.

Betty retired from Brookfield Local Schools where she had worked as a cafeteria worker in various buildings throughout the district and had also worked at Clarks Diner.

She was a member of the Brookfield Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary and the Brookfield United Methodist Church. She enjoyed crafting, ceramics, baking, music and bowling.

She leaves behind: her daughters-in-law, Dianne Dougan of Brushvalley, Pa.; and Sylvia Craig of Hermitage; sister-in-law Louise Bowman of Indiana, Pa.; brother-in-law Bruce Wheeler of Sharpsville; three grandchildren, Michele Runyan of Sharpsville; Douglas P. Craig of Indiana, Pa.; Roxy Craig of Homer City, Pa.; and five great-grandchildren, Ashlee, Cory, Samantha, Martin, and Addalynne; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by: her husband on July 14, 1984; three children; her granddaughter, Tina Duncan; and her siblings, Virginia, Lillian, Hazel, Orrie and Sam.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that any contributions be made to either the American Diabetes Association or to the American Heart Association.
