Florence Haber Alpern of Oakview Drive, Hermitage, passed away peacefully of natural causes at 5:50 p.m. Wednesday (7-2-14) in her residence. She was 91.
Mrs. Alpern was born June 12, 1923, in Youngstown, one of eight children born to Jacob and Mary Fibus Haber.
In her early years, she lived in both Youngstown and New Castle.
She was a longtime member of Temple Beth Israel, Sharon, and a current member of the Congregation Rodef Sholom, Youngstown.
She was a member of the National Council of Jewish Women, of Hadassah, and the Sisterhood of Temple Beth Israel.
Florence served for many years on the board of directors at Mercer County Behavioral Health Commission.
Her first husband, Dr. Harold Resnick, whom she married March 1, 1952, passed away Sept. 12, 1964. Her second husband, Bernard Alpern, whom she married Jan. 18, 1968, passed away June 2, 1995.
She is survived by: her two daughters, Jane Kahn and her husband Buddy, O’Hara Township, Allegheny County; and Joan Weiner and her husband Marc, Lancaster, Pa.; and two sons, Jeffrey Resnick, Pittsburgh; and Joshua Resnick and his wife Debbie, Fox Chapel.
She also leaves to cherish her memory her six grandchildren, Aaron and Elliot Kahn; Andrew, Jessica and Ben Weiner; and Samantha Resnick.
Besides her two husbands, she was preceded in death by her parents; three sisters, Ruth Shaw, Rose Shaw and Frances Pollock; and four brothers, Frank, Martin, Norman and Lawrence Haber.
