Clara Jean Williams

Nurse worked at Greenville hospital, St. Paul’s

- — Clara Jean Williams of the Heritage at St. Paul’s, West Salem Township, formerly of 15 Argus Street, Greenville, passed away at 6:34 a.m. Thursday (7-17-14) at UPMC Horizon, Greenville. She was 83.

Jean was born in Sheakleyville on Dec. 28, 1930, to William John and Helen Josephine Vaughn Davison.

She was a registered nurse at the former Greenville Hospital from 1952 to 1971. She later worked as a nursing supervisor at what was then St. Paul Homes, retiring in March 1993.

Jean enjoyed knitting, crocheting, and quilting. She collected Depression glass and her collection was extensive. Jean also liked bird watching, reading, and gardening and planting flowers, having had a collection of African violets.

She loved attending activities and sporting events of her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

Jean also loved the companionship of her cats.

She married Cecil Oren Williams on April 25, 1951; he preceded her in death Jan. 28, 2006.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a brother, Major William Glen Davison; a sister, Betty Jane Stallsmith; an infant grandson, Brandon John Williams; an infant great-granddaughter, Gracen Faith Saltzgaber; and a brother-in-law, the Rev. Andrew Stallsmith.

Jean is survived by two sons, Richard Vaughn Williams and his wife Rhonda, of Knox, Clarion County; and John Cecil Williams and his wife Kim, Greenville; five grandchildren, Stephen Andrew Williams and his wife Christina, Greenville; Jessica Marie Snyder and her husband Matt, Greenville; Christy Lee Meterko and her husband Adam, Strattanville, Pa.; Daniel John Williams and his wife Erin, Greenville; and Dayna Michelle Saltzgaber and her husband Staff Sgt. Ryan, Anchorage, Alaska; eight great-grandchildren, Stephen Vaughn Williams, Greenville; Louden Ty Booher, Greenville; Sawyer Andrew Williams, Greenville; Dominick Joseph Snyder, Greenville; Rilee Hope Saltzgaber, Anchorage; Matthew John Snyder, Greenville; Holden Daniel Williams, Greenville; and Brayden Adam Meterko, Strattanville.

Service: Funeral service at 2 p.m. Sunday in the funeral home with the Rev. Paul O. Mitchell, visitation pastor of First United Methodist Church, Greenville, officiating.

Burial: Graveside committal prayers will follow the services at Sheakleyville Cemetery in Sheakleyville.
