Jack T. Mayer

Army veteran was retired truck driver

- — CONNEAUTVILLE – Jack T. Mayer, formerly of Greenville, passed away at 2:38 p.m. Sunday (6-1-14) in Rolling Fields Eldercare Community, Conneautville. He was 84.

Mr. Mayer was born June 14, 1929, in Greenville to Frank and Mildred Barrows Mayer.

He was a 1947 graduate of the former Penn High School, Greenville.

From 1952-53, Mr. Mayer served in the Army during the Korean conflict, stationed in Germany.

Upon his return from the service, he worked at his family’s Hudson dealership, Mayer’s Motor Service in Greenville, until 1957. He then went to work as a truck driver, driving for Hall’s Motor Freight and later Valley Motor Freight, retiring in 1999.

Jack was a member of St. Michael’s Church, Knights of Columbus Fitzmartin Council 1446 and Benevolent and Protective Order of the Elks Lodge 145, all Greenville; and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3374, Hempfield Township.

He enjoyed bowling for more than 45 years, working on cars, collecting BMW motorcycles and was an avid car racing fan, especially NASCAR.

On Feb. 22, 1949, he married the former Martha Brown, who passed away Oct. 28, 1998.

He is survived by: two daughters, Vickie Lieb and her husband Dennis, Sharon; and Sandra Ziegler and her husband Dr. John Ziegler, Conneaut Lake; a sister, Jean Creswell, Sheakleyville; four grandchildren, Devon Schlieper, Dana Korcinsky, Heather Ziegler and Eric Ziegler; and two great-grandchildren, Carter and Ava Korcinsky.

Besides his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Richard Mayer.

Service: Private funeral services will be held Wednesday (6-4-14) in LOUTZENHISER-JORDAN FUNERAL HOME AND CREMATION SERVICES Inc., 366-68 S. Main St., Greenville, with the Rev. Christopher Barnes, parochial vicar of St. Michael’s Church, Greenville, officiating.

Interment: St. Michael’s Cemetery, Greenville.
