William ‘Bill’ Charles Forrester

Retired street foreman was active in Mercer area

- — A funeral service will be held Saturday for William “Bill” Charles Forrester of Mercer. He passed away suddenly at 2:14 p.m. Sunday, June 1, 2014, due to an automobile accident in Venango County. He was 66.

Mr. Forrester was born Oct. 25, 1947, in Sharon to Robert and Emma Caswell Forrester.

A 1965 graduate of Mercer High School, he attended Slippery Rock University.

He was employed by the former Greenville Steel Car Co., then retired from the Borough of Mercer as the street foreman.

Mr. Forrester was a Marine Corps veteran and was of the Presbyterian faith.

In his younger years, he and his wife ran a local canteen for young people for a few years at Brandy Springs Community Building.

He was active in the Jaycees, having served as an officer; played on the softball teams of Mercer Veterans of Foreign Wars and Bethany Presbyterian Church, Mercer; was a former coach for long distance runners in track and cross country at Mercer High School; and was active in initiating the small group program through Bethany Presbyterian Church.

He loved rock climbing, bike riding, backpacking, hunting and fishing and was an avid outdoorsman. He was a member of the Munnell Run Co-Op Trout Nursery and an avid Steelers and Pitt basketball fan. He loved Pat Summit’s Tennessee Lady Vols.

He was a proud grandpa to Zachary and Hanna.

His wife, Judith Steen Forrester, survives at the residence.

Also surviving are: a daughter: Suzanne Forrester, San Francisco; two sons, Michael Forrester and his wife Rebecca, Mercer; and Steven Forrester and his wife Pam, Cranberry Township; two sisters, Florence, wife of John Williams, Lancaster, Texas; and Mary Esther, wife of Lou Ciavarella, Lordstown, Ohio; a brother, George Forrester and his wife Anna, Niles, Ohio; and his grandchildren, Zachary and Hanna.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert Forrester and Emma Caswell Forrester Lary; a sister, Roberta Holt; and two brothers, Jim and David Forrester.

In lieu of flowers, the family memorial contributions be made in Bill’s honor to Mike Hastillo Memorial Fund, 668 Flanders Road, Coventry, CT 06238, Mike was a 32-year-old Marine who was killed in a motorcycle accident on Easter, leaving behind a wife and two young children.
