Dolly Abranovich Secich

Ex-Sharon homemaker was top baker, cake decorator

- — Mass of Christian burial will be Monday for Dolly Abranovich Secich of John XXIII Home, Hermitage, formerly of Sharon. She passed away peacefully with her family by her side at 10:20 p.m. Tuesday (6-24-14) in the home. She was 91.

She was born Oct. 3, 1922 in Oil City, a daughter of John and Mary Sajatovich Abranovich.

She was raised in Pulaski and was a member of Union High School graduating class of 1941.

During World War II, she worked as “Rosie the Riveter” at the former Sharon Transformer Division of Westinghouse Electric Corp., where she installed components into torpedo housing as part of the war effort.

Dolly was married and became a loving mother, homemaker, and renowned baker and cake decorator for several local bakeries including the former Metz Bakery and Maxanne’s Bakery.

Her reputation followed her even after her retirement as she was often called upon to fill many requests for wedding, christening and birthday cakes, well into her 80s.

She was a member of St. Anthony’s Parish, Sharon. A devout Catholic, she was a professed member of the Secular Franciscans Holy Spirit Fraternity, Sharon, since Nov. 13, 1991.

She enjoyed volunteering her time for many years as a member of the former Farrell Kiwaniannes.

She loved her cats, her garden, baking, tole painting, sewing and, most of all, her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren and the time they shared together.

She married Frank John Secich on July 27, 1946, in St. Anthony’s Parish, Sharon. He preceded her in death.

She leaves to cherish her memory her three children, Cinda “Cindy” Secich Wilpula and her husband Don, Mercer; Frank Joseph Secich and his wife Lisa, Hermitage; and Maryann Secich Hartmann and her husband Gerald, Keno, Ore. She also leaves nine grandchildren, John Wilpula and his wife Kristie, Tracy Wilpula Reckless and her husband Dale, David Wilpula and his wife Elizabeth, Nicholas Wilpula and his wife Micah, Mary Beth Wilpula and her fiancé Daniel Sherman, David Hartmann and his wife Megan, Michael Hartmann and his wife Tina Eng, Kristen Hartmann and her husband Guillaume Pichot, and Jacob Secich. She is also survived by her 11 great-grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, her family asks that anyone wishing to make a memorial contribution in her memory to please consider St. Anthony’s Church, 804 Idaho St., Sharon, PA 16146.
