Laird L. “Larry” Jackson of Hermitage passed away unexpectedly of natural causes early Sunday morning, June 29, 2014. He was 84.
Mr. Jackson was born July 21, 1929, in West Middlesex, a son of Fred and Olive Fair Jackson.
A lifelong area resident, he was raised in what was then Hickory Township, where he attended school.
He served with the Army, stationed in Germany, during the Korean conflict and was a member of the Hickory VFW Post 6166, Hermitage.
Larry retired from the former Sharon Steel Corp.’s Farrell plant where he was employed for 40 years.
An equestrian, he owned and showed American Saddlebred horses for many years.
His wife, the former Helen E. McDowell, whom he married August 5, 1959, passed away July 6, 1996.
Surviving are a son, James E. MacArthur and his wife Linda, Hermitage; two grandchildren, Shawna Strait and her husband Kevin, Rockvale, Colo.; and Justin Everett, Salinas, Calif.; three great-grandchildren, Zachery Ackerman, serving with the Navy; and Kevin Ackerman, 15; and Elizabeth Ackerman, 13; and a niece, Sandra Kays, Seminole, Fla.
Besides his wife, Larry was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Thelma Jane Whitman; and a brother, Frederick Ronald Jackson.

Interment: Hillcrest Memorial Park, Hermitage.
