Air Force veteran, Comdoc retiree was skilled builder

- — A funeral service will be held Tuesday for Michael Joseph Bobbie of  Hermitage, formerly of Yankee Ridge Road, Lackawannock Township.

Mr. Bobbie passed away peacefully at home at 3:40 a.m. Friday, Jan. 17, 2014, following an extended illness. He was 72.

Mr. Bobbie was born Nov. 13, 1941, in Sharon, a son of the late Michael and Kathleen Stone Bobbie.

A lifelong area resident, he was a member of the graduating class of 1960 of Hickory High School, Hermitage.

A veteran of the United States Air Force, he served as a radar technician with the 667th Aircraft Control and Warning Squadron and was honorably discharged Aug. 1, 1963. He returned to civilian life and obtained a private pilot’s license and was a member of a local flying club.

He was employed by Comdoc Inc., Massilon, Ohio, where he worked for 37 years as an office equipment technician; retiring Jan. 1, 2002. Following retirement, he gained employment with CARQUEST auto parts in Hermitage, where he enjoyed working as a part-time delivery man.

Along with his wife Anna, he wintered in Spring Hill, Fla., for several years. Together they made many friends and acquaintances.

A Free and Accepted Mason, Mr. Bobbie belonged to Shenango Valley Lodge 810, Hermitage.

An outdoorsman, he loved camping, hunting and fishing, boating and constructing and flying radio-controlled airplanes. He also was a knowledgeable builder and was proud to have built his own home in Lackawannock Township.

His wife, who was his high school sweetheart, the former Anna Miller, whom he married in St. Joseph’s Church on July 20, 1963, survives at home.

Also surviving are: two daughters, Lynne Griffin and her husband Robert, Lancaster, Pa.; and Christine Schroyer and her husband Karl, Lackawannock, Township; five granddaughters, Mikayla, Emily, Karleen, and Leah Schroyer and Taylor Griffin.

He also leaves: his brothers, Jerry, Girard, Ohio; Richard, Sharpsville; Paul, Farrell; and G. Scott Smiley, Fort Wayne, Ind.; his sisters, Becky Wantuck, Buffalo, N.Y.; Maria Wingert, Cleveland; Judy A. Settle and her husband Angelo P., Hermitage; and Peggy Bobbie, Greenville; and many nieces and nephews.

His family would like to thank the physicians and staff at the Cancer Care Center in Hermitage, Dr. David L. D’Amore and Sharon Regional Health System’s Hospice and Palliative Care for their exceptional and compassionate care during Michael’s illness and treatment.
