David ‘Dave’ Edward Womer

Grata salesman loved music, baseball, cars

-----

- — A private memorial service will be held at a later date for David “Dave” Edward Womer of Tiffany Lane in Hermitage. He passed away peacefully Sunday morning, Jan. 19, 2014, in his residence. He was 73.

Born Aug. 28, 1940, to E. Paul and Elsie Warsing Womer, Mr. Womer grew up in Volant.

He was a 1958 graduate of Wilmington Area High School, where he met the love of his life, Janet Lynn Edmiston.

After serving his country in the U.S. Army from 1959 to 1961, he and Jan were married Aug. 1, 1961. David and Jan celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in 2011, where surrounded by family and friends, they renewed their vows.

David was a talented, loving person with many interests including baseball, music and cars.

His love of baseball began as a young boy. He played in high school and was an avid fan of the Pittsburgh Pirates. He also made several trips with his family to the Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown, N.Y., and traveled with his son, Brandon, to several famous ballparks.

He sang in the choir at Neshannock Presbyterian Church for many years, played the guitar and sang with several area country bands.

Most recently, Dave was a member of the Pittsburgh German Club and Teutonia Maennerchor. He traveled to Germany with the Maennerchor to perform and will be greatly missed among his many friends there.

David was a successful car salesman for more than 50 years, winning Salesman of the Month and Salesman of the Year a multitude of times. He was employed by Mel Grata Chevrolet for most of his career and considered his colleagues family. He said it was one of the greatest places to work and he sincerely loved his job.

He also restored several antique cars including a 1955 Chevy, a 1940 Ford Sedan and a 1966 Mustang convertible.

David’s greatest loves, however, were God and his family. He loved to watch his children and grandchildren in sporting events, piano recitals and plays.

In addition to his wife, David is survived by: three children, daughter Leanna and her husband Tom Colarich, her children David and Julianna and their father, Richard Graney; daughter Heidi and her husband Don Bizon and their children Brennan and Brady; and son Brandon Womer and his wife Bea, and their children Mara and Jacob. Surviving siblings include Penny Shaffer, New Wilmington; Donna and her husband Ken Phillips, New Castle; Becky Cosgrove, Volant; Beth Miller, New Wilmington; Mary White, Hermitage; Bob Womer and his wife Phyrn, Volant; and Sam Womer and his wife Nancy, Carmel, Calif.

He is also survived by many Edmiston brothers- and sisters-in-law and nieces and nephews, all of whom he loved dearly.

Dave was preceded in death by his parents; his sisters, Eudora Aiken and Dorothy Wilt; his brothers, Paul and Jim; and his niece, Sandy Mae Edmiston.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be made to Faith Country Chapel, 3818 Old Butler Road, New Castle, PA 16101; or Pittsburgh Teutonia Maennerchor, 857 Phineas St., Pittsburgh, PA 15212.
