Angelo A. DeLaurentis

Westinghouse engineer created 10 patents

- — Angelo A. DeLaurentis, formerly of Sharpsville, passed away Monday morning (1-20-14) in St. Paul’s, West Salem Township. He was 90.

Mr. DeLaurentis was born June 21, 1923, in Greenville to Pietro and Nellie Morse DeLaurentis.

He attended St. Michael’s School and was a 1941 graduate of the former Penn High School, both Greenville. After graduation, he enrolled in Deforest Radio School, Chicago. While attending school, he worked at Western Electric.

From 1942-45, he served as a staff sergeant in the U.S. Army Air Force 36th Photo Reconnaissance Squadron 6th Photo Group, stationed in the Western and Southern Pacific.

After his discharge from the military, he worked in Chicago, and in 1948, returned to Greenville.

He then attended Grove City College, graduating in 1953 with a degree in electrical engineering. While attending GCC, he worked nights at the former Sharon Transformer Division of Westinghouse Electric Corp.

After graduation, he worked in the Advanced Material Core Technology Department of Westinghouse until his retirement in 1984. Angelo was responsible for the creation of 10 patents while employed at Westinghouse and had worked in plants in the U.S., Germany, Spain and Korea.

Angelo and his wife, the former Julie Kosnac, whom he married May 8, 1954, were one of many original members of Church of Notre Dame, Hermitage. He also belonged to American Legion Post 299, Sharon.

He enjoyed working in his garden and taking good care of his fruit trees.

He is survived by: two sisters, Rose M. Stumpff and Virginia DeLaurentis, both Greenville, and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to his wife, who passed away May 19, 2010, he was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, C. Charles DeLaurentis and his wife Sara; and Paul M. DeLaurentis and his wife Cam; a brother-in-law, Paul A. Stumpff; and an infant sister, Mary.
