Virginia Rhoads

Mercer woman worked at courthouse, Armstrong

- — Mrs. Rhoads was born Aug. 18, 1924, in Jackson Center to James H. and Clara McConnell.

She graduated from Mercer High School and married Ralph Rhoads on June 30, 1943.

Mrs. Rhoads worked at Mercer County Courthouse, then Armstrong Insurance Agency for many years.

She was a huge sports fan, especially the Pittsburgh Steelers and Penguins and all sporting events in which the grandchildren and great-grandchildren were involved.

She loved playing bridge and spending time with family and friends.

Mrs. Rhoads is survived by: a daughter, Lynda Cielieska and her husband Robert, Dearborn, Mich.; daughter-in-law, Melinda Rhoads, Slippery Rock; grandchildren, Robin Hunter and her husband Cullen, Grand Rapids, Mich.; Andy Cielieska and his wife Jennifer, Grosse Pointe Park, Mich.; Jence, Karly and Kourtney Rhoads, Slippery Rock; great-grandchildren, Ethan, Caeden, Nolan and Ansley Hunter; Charlie, Sammy and Maggie Cielieska.

She is also survived by a sister-in-law, Marion McConnell, Stoneboro; niece, Judy Walker, Grove City; nephews, James McConnell and his wife Pat, Knox; John McConnell and his wife Susie, Franklin; Larry McConnell, Stoneboro; and many wonderful, dear friends.

Virginia was preceded in death by her parents; husband; son, Robert “Posey” Rhoads; brother, Harry McConnell; brother and sister-in-law, James and Sylva McConnell; nephew, William McConnell; and niece, Sylva Ann Ferry.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be made to Robert “Posey” Rhoads Scholarship Fund, Slippery Rock University, Slippery Rock, PA 16057; Mercer United Methodist Church, 250 E. Butler St.; and Mercer Area Library, 110 E. Venango St., both Mercer, PA 16137; or Trinity Living Center, 400 Hillcrest Ave., Grove City, PA 16127.
