Native of Alabama was laborer, lived in Farrell

- — A funeral celebration of life service will be held Friday for Samuel D. Odem of Farrell. He passed away at 7:45 a.m. Sunday (1-26-14) in his home. He was 69.

Mr. Odem was born Sept. 13, 1944, in Goodwater, Ala., a son of Ed and Veola Halloway Odem.

He came to the Shenango Valley many years ago and worked for many years as a laborer with several construction companies.

Mr. Odem was a member of Community Missionary Baptist Church, Farrell.

He enjoyed fishing, working on cars and spending time with his family. 

He leaves to cherish his memory: his loving companion, Lynda Wright, with whom he made his home; his loving daughters, Charlene Norris, Farrell; Erica Odem, Alabama; Melinda Evans, Sharon; and Melissa Vaughn, Mississippi; his sons, Devon “Peter” Norris and his wife Courtney, Sharon; Sam “Deano” Phillips and his wife Jane, Farrell; Lynndell Odem, Sharon; George and Cory Wright, both Youngstown; Nehemiah Evans and his wife Michelle, Sharon; and Michael Evans, Hermitage; his brothers, Fred Odem; and Billy Odem and his wife Mary, all Farrell; Ed Odem Jr. and his wife Margarita, Sharon; his sisters, Gloria Cooper, Cleveland; Elenora Laney, Farrell; and Martha Higgins, Sharon; his sister-in-law, Denise Higgins, also Sharon; and a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, other relatives and dear friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Thelma Scales; and his brothers, John, James, Tommy and Theodore Odem.
