Robert ‘Bob’ F. Kear

Hobbyist was retired sales manager at car dealership


- — A memorial service will be held at a later date for Robert “Bob” F. Kear of Sharon. He passed away peacefully at 8:20 a.m. Monday, Jan. 27, 2014, in his home after an extended illness. He was 87.

Mr. Kear was born April 3, 1926, in Sharon, a son of Robert W. and Frances W. Reagle Kear.

He attended school in Sharon and graduated in 1944 from the former Hartford High School.

Bob retired from Shenango Lincoln Mercury, Hermitage, where he was the sales manager for 16 years. He previously worked at the former Purdy Chevrolet in Sharon.

He was of the Methodist faith.  

Bob was a radio remote control airplane enthusiast and enjoyed hiking, biking, reading and crossword puzzles.

He served with the Navy in the Pacific and China during World War II.

He is survived by: his wife, the former Helen M. Dye, whom he married Sept. 20, 1990; a daughter, Rebecca L. Kear, Milford, Conn.; three sisters, Nancy Whitmore, Meadville; Joanne David, Arizona; and Dorothy Patton and her husband David, also Arizona; a brother, Gordon Kear, Pittsburgh; two stepchildren, Trina Walker and her husband Craig, Pittsburgh; and Tracy Hopkins and her husband Robert, New Jersey; eight grandchildren, Krista Haswell and her husband Kevin; Kheila Dunkerly and her husband Beau; and Kendra Darr and her husband Dan; Jordan and Graham Walker; and Christopher, Megan and Cara Hopkins; and five great-grandchildren, Liam and Olivia Haswell; James and Jack Dunkerly; and Keira Darr.

Bob was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Richard “Dick” Kear; a sister, Geraldine “Gerri” Collins; and a nephew, Robert Kear.

The family suggests memorial contributions be made to a charity of the donor’s choice.
