Marsha Kay Thomas Bortner Collins of Sandy Creek Township, passed away at 3:05 p.m. Monday, Jan. 27, 2014, in her residence after an extended illness. She was 64.
Mrs. Collins was born March 15, 1949, in Brownsville, Pa., to Orval and Joan Dean Thomas.
Marsha graduated from Sharon High School in 1968.
In 1971, she became a licensed practical nurse from Mercer County Vo-Tech and, in 1990, became a registered nurse from Sharon Regional School of Nursing, specializing in geriatric, psychiatric and hospice care. She retired after 40 years of nursing.
She was of the Baptist faith, born again in Jesus Christ, son of God.
Marsha enjoyed crocheting, gardening and, especially, her children and grandchildren.
Her husband, Robert Collins, to whom she was married for 22 years, survives at home.
Also surviving are: two daughters, Jayne Bortner and her companion Mike Caszatt, Sharpsville; and Heather Collins Testani and her husband Rick, Hermitage; four sons, Matthew Bortner, Pittsburgh; Elbert Bortner and his wife Sherry, Pulaski; Greg Bortner and his wife Shannon, Hubbard; and George Collins and his wife Julie, Jefferson, Ohio; her brothers, Bruce Thomas and his wife Kathy, West Middlesex; Bill Thomas and his companion Melissa McIntire, Sharon; and Kip Thomas and his wife Carol, West Middlesex; her grandchildren, Ryan, Melinda, Jay, Amanda, Michael, Cody, Camren, Ethan, Saydee, Jacob, Zachary, Seth, Dominic, Gianna, Samantha, Cera and Colby; her former sister-in-law, Maybelle Thomas, Sharon; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Jeffrey Bortner; a daughter, Melissa Bortner; a sister, Lee Ann Rimko; and a granddaughter, Gabriele Collins.
