Mary Louise ‘Mutzie’ Rock Farley

Retired Farrell city worker was proud of heritage

- — A committal service will be held Saturday for Mary Louise “Mutzie” Rock Farley, a lifetime resident of Farrell. She passed away peacefully at 7 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 26, 2014, of natural causes, comforted by the presence of many family members. She was 91.

Mrs. Farley was born Aug. 16, 1922, in Farrell to Nicholas Rock and Agnus Betoryak Rock, and was always very proud of her Croatian family heritage. She was the fifth child of a loving, close-knit family that included five boys and six girls.

Mary graduated from Farrell High School in 1940 and was a member of the basketball team. During World War II, she was employed in the offices at the former Sharon Transformer Division of Westinghouse Electric Corp. She later managed the Croatian American Citizens Civic Club, Farrell.

Following the death of her husband, Mary began working for the City of Farrell police department, serving first as a crossing guard, then working her way up to dispatcher until her retirement. She had fond memories of past and current employees of the City of Farrell!

As a member of St. Anthony’s Church, Sharon, Mary was proud that she had helped to carry the bricks from which the church was built.

Mary’s life was most defined by her love of family and the enjoyment she derived from family traditions and activities. She had a wonderful memory and loved to reminisce about the past. She was loved for her kindness and generosity, and will be dearly missed by all who have known her.

Mary was preceded in death by her parents and eight of her siblings, Nicholas (Victoria), Ann Susleck, Frank (Viola), Catherine Beggs, Dorothy (John) Kiefer, Albert, Charles, and at an early age, Billy.

In 1952, Mary married Richard N. Farley, who preceded her in death in January of 1970. Her beloved son, Charles A. Farley, predeceased her in June of 2013.

(Chuck) Manning and grandsons Chuck and great-grandson Andrew, Christopher (Kaye) and great-grandchildren Connor, Elizabeth and Charlotte, and Aaron and great granddaughter Morgan. She is also survived by her son, Dr. R. Also surviving are her dear sisters, Helen (George, deceased) Marenchin and Ginger (Eugene, deceased) Bupp, both of Farrell, and in-laws Matthew “Blackie” (Ann, deceased) Susleck, Victoria (Albert, deceased) Rock and Mildred (Chuck, deceased) Rock.
