Irene E. Shirley

Niles woman active in church had children here


- — MINERAL RIDGE, Ohio – The Lord called Irene E. Shirley of Mineral Ridge to her heavenly home at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 29, 2014, in Vista Care at the Ridge. She was 84.

Mrs. Shirley was born June 15, 1929, in Mineral Ridge, a daughter of Frank Henry and Mary Ann Money Gifford.

She lived in the Niles area her entire life.

For many years, Irene was a housekeeper, served in elder care and was a child care provider.

As a member of the Allegheny Wesleyan Methodist Church in Niles, she was a Sunday school teacher and enjoyed all the activities at her church.

She enjoyed singing, flower gardening and reading, and cherished the time spent with her grandchildren.

Her husband, Earl Lloyd Shirley, whom she married Nov. 12, 1955, died Nov. 17, 1976.

Irene is survived by four children, Dale Shirley and his wife Karen, West Middlesex; Deborah and her husband Jack Bradley, Vienna; Pamela Workman and Mike Cline, Hubbard; and Kimberly Coleman and her fiancé Bryan Orr, Niles; and 12 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren.

Besides her husband, Irene was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers, Howard, Cecil and Raymond Gifford; and three sisters, twins Viola and Helen Gifford; and Verda Fusselman.

Service: Funeral service at 11 a.m. Monday (2-3-14) in the funeral home with Pastor Rohn Stearns and Pastor Allan McCracken officiating.

Burial: Kerr Cemetery, Weathersfield Township, Trumbull County.
