Guy N. Zomparelli

GATX retiree, Korean War vet belonged to St. Joe’s


- — Guy N. Zomparelli of Sharon, formerly of Sharpsville, passed away unexpectedly at 12:25 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 4, 2014, in UPMC Presbyterian, Pittsburgh. He was 83.

Mr. Zomparelli was born Oct. 18, 1930, in Sharpsville to James and Victoria Mele Zomparelli.

Guy worked as a storeroom attendant for 36 years at General American Transportation Corp.’s former Masury plant, retiring in 1981.

He graduated from Sharpsville High School.

He was a member of St. Joseph’s Church, Sharon.

A U.S. Army veteran, he served as a corporal and a medic during the Korean conflict, earning a National Defense Service Medal. He belonged to Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 6404, Sharpsville.

Guy enjoyed bowling and going to car shows and loved spending time with his family and friends. He was a loving husband and a wonderful, caring and compassionate uncle to all of his nieces, nephews and godchildren.

His wife, the former Ann Grexa, whom he married June 27, 1970, survives in Hermitage.

He also leaves: two brothers, Dominick Zomparelli and Alex Zomparelli, both Sharpsville; his aunt, Julia Pallazzo, Youngstown; many nieces and nephews; and a brother-in-law, the Rev. Paul Grexa and his wife Beverly, Barberton, Ohio.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister-in-law, Angela Zomparelli; several aunts and uncles; and many nieces and nephews.

Service: Funeral service at noon Saturday (2-8-14) in St. Joseph’s Church, Sharon, with the Rev. Casimir Bogniak, officiating. Everyone is asked to please meet at the church.

Burial: Hillcrest Memorial Park, Hermitage, with military honors by the Wheatland West Middlesex Honor Guard.
