Laurel B. Doody of Liberty Township and a Grove City resident since 1994, formerly of Cary, Ill., passed away at 7:10 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 11, 2014, in Visiting Nurses Association Inpatient Unit, Butler, after a 13-year courageous battle with cancer. She was 49.
Mrs. Doody was born Jan. 29, 1965, in Waukegan, Lake County, Ill., to Bruce E. Ballard and Edna Green Ballard.
She was a graduate of Cary Grove High School, class of 1983, and received her associate’s degree in business from McHenry County Community College, Crystal Lake, Ill.
Laurel formerly worked for Kemper Insurance Co., Lake Zurich, Ill., where she was the assistant controller.
She was a homemaker.
Laurel was an active member of Grace United Methodist Church, Grove City, where she held many positions including church treasurer and president of the United Methodist Women. She was chosen Woman of The Year in 2009.
Her husband, Martin “Marty” J. Doody, whom she married July 10, 1993, survives at home.
She also leaves: two sons, Joshua Doody and Austin Doody, both Grove City; her mother, Edna Ballard, also Grove City; and two brothers, David B. Ballard and his wife Colleen, Palm Harbor, Fla.; and Kevin A. Ballard and his husband John Wessel, Morris, Ill.
She was preceded in death by her father.
