A memorial Mass will be celebrated Tuesday for Gary M. “Kinky” “Chewy” Pushcar of Masury. He was called home to be with the Lord at 6:20 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 13, 2014, while at home surrounded by his family after a 22-month fight with pancreatic cancer. He was 62.
Mr. Pushcar was born Sept. 12, 1951, in Sharon, a son to Steve and Anna Palumbo Pushcar.
A 1969 graduate of Brookfield High School, he furthered his education by receiving a bachelor’s degree in education from Youngstown State University in 1973.
He found employment as a journeyman electrician for Local 64 of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers, Boardman, Ohio, where he dedicated the next 32 years of his life. He had also worked for University Electric, Youngstown.
Gary was also very proud to have served as an equipment manager for both the Hubbard and Campbell Memorial high school football teams.
He married the former Patricia A. Palfi on April 29, 1978, and together they started a family. Born to this union were sons, John M. and Daniel M., and daughter, Nicole L.
A devout Catholic, he was a member of the former St. Bernadette’s Church, Masury, and presently belonged to St. Patrick’s Church, Hubbard.
His other memberships include the former Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 8860, Masury, and Post 6404, Sharpsville.
In his spare time, he enjoyed bowling with the Sharpsville Steelworkers, hunting, golfing, annual fishing trips to Canada with “the boys,” attending NASCAR races with his wife to cheer on Harry Gant No. 33 and going to Sharon Speedway.
Survivors include: his wife, Patricia; his sons, John and Daniel, both Masury; his daughter, Nicole, Naples, Fla.; his brother, Anthony “Tony” Pushcar and his wife Nancy, Brookfield; his sister, Jesse “Mary Ann” Pilney, Masury; his grandchildren, Joshua, Jacob and Jeremiah Pushcar; and his extended family.
As suggested by his family, memorial contributions may be made in Gary’s memory to Hospice House, 9803 Sharrott Road, Poland, OH 44514.
