Donald ‘Donnie’ R. Springer

Wheatland Tube retiree was VFW social member


- — A memorial gathering will be held Friday for Donald “Donnie” R. Springer of Pymatuning Township. He passed away at 5 a.m. Monday, Feb. 17, 2014, in his residence surrounded by his family after an extended illness. He was 62.

Mr. Springer was born Jan. 18, 1952, in Uniontown, Pa., to Roy and Caroline Glover Springer.

He graduated in 1970 from Uniontown High School.

Mr. Spring-er was employed at Wheatland Tube as a tester for 28 years, retiring in 2002.

Donnie was a social member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 7599, Reynolds. He enjoyed hunting and fishing, mowing his yard, gardening and spending time with his grandchildren.

His wife, the former Ava Thomas, whom he married July 3, 1970, survives at home.

Also surviving are: two sons, Bo Springer and his wife Lisa, Burghill; and George Springer, Transfer; five sisters, Roilynn Rupert and her husband Mark; and Pamela Springer and her companion Kenton Vath, all Hermitage; Shirley Darby and her husband Bill, Transfer; Jodi Detal and her husband Doug, Sharon; and Debbie Shaw and her husband Steve, Transfer; two brothers, James E. Springer and his wife Erla, Hermitage; and Danny R. Springer and his companion Cindy Miller, Greenville; five grandchildren, Brooke, Luke, Jack, Allison and Haley; a special family friend, Amy White, Hermitage; and several nieces, nephews and in-laws.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Roy Springer and Caroline Springer-O’Neill; and a stepfather, Bud O’Neill.
