Jim L. Phillips

East Main church member retired from hospital


- — Jim L. Phillips of Grove City passed away Tuesday evening (2-18-14). He was 75.

Jim was born near Tulsa, Okla., on Jan. 19, 1939, to Jimmie and Evelyn Phillips.

He married Rose E. Duschek on Aug. 22, 1964, in Pittsburgh.

He served in the Army before attending Slippery Rock University. He was retired from Grove City Medical Center, Pine Township.

Jim was an avid reader, a sports enthusiast and an active basketball and softball player for much of his young adult life. He was also a dedicated fan of local and Pittsburgh sports teams. A life-long animal lover, he had a special bond with his canine companions.

Jim was a member for several decades of East Main Presbyterian Church, Grove City, where he also served as a deacon. He volunteered much of his time to the visitation of ill and elderly members of the community. His kindness, compassion and gentle spirit touched many lives.

Jim is survived by his wife, Rose; his daughter, Amy; his in-laws, Helen L. Jenkins, Frank F. Duschek and his wife Kathy, and Cheryl Phillips; and several nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and younger brother.

Calling hours: 4 to 7 p.m. today (2-21-14) in CUNNINGHAM FUNERAL HOME, 306 Bessemer Ave., Grove City; and 11:30 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. Saturday (2-22-14) in East Main Presbyterian Church, 120 E. Main St., Grove City.

Service: Funeral service at 1 p.m. Saturday in the church with the Rev. Bill Hoffman officiating.

Burial: Jefferson Memorial Park, Pittsburgh.
