Denis R. Stewart

Delphi retiree liked outdoor activities, making wine

---- — Denis R. Stewart of Five Points Road, Fowler, passed away at 12:06 p.m. Saturday (6-22-13) in Hospice House, Poland, Ohio, following an extended illness. He was 72.

Denis was born May 31, 1941, in Sharon, he was one of four children born to Harold Raymond and Helen Norma Friedrich Stewart.

He graduated from Sacred Heart Elementary School, Sharon, and was a member of Sharon High School graduating class of 1959. In August of that same year, Denis enlisted into the U.S. Navy and served aboard the USS Forrestal, also known as the FID (First In Defense), the lead ship in the 6th Fleet. His tour of duty included trips to the Mediterranean and he was honorably discharged Aug. 27, 1963.

He returned home and worked at the former National Malleable Casting Company, Sharon. Later he gained employment as a supervisor with what is now the Delphi Packard Electric Systems company in Warren, Ohio, retiring in 1996.

He was a former member of Church of the Sacred Heart, Sharon.

Denis loved the outdoors and the open road. With his wife at his side he explored the United States and parts of Canada on his Harley-Davidson motorcycle. He loved fishing, bicycling, boating, camping, and getting together with friends and family to create his homemade wines.

His wife, the former Linda M. Lawrence, whom he married May 23, 1981, survives at home.

He also leaves two sons, Christopher F. Stewart and his wife Ginger, Hermitage; and Denis M. Stewart, Coolville, Ohio; a sister, Susanne M. Stewart, Vienna, Ohio; a brother, Timothy B. Stewart, Sharon; nine grandchildren, Amy Trowbridge (Kristin); Denny Trowbridge (Corina); Jason Stewart (Danielle); and Heather; Nikki; Hailey; Brittany; Quinton; and Zander Stewart; three great-grandchildren, Braxton and Chloe Stewart; and Zoey Trowbridge; a sister-in-law, Jeanine Lawrence; and two brothers-in-law, Jerry and Ron Lawrence.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Terence M. Stewart.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in his memory to the Cancer Care Center Angel Fund of Sharon Regional Health System, 2320 Highland Road, Hermitage, PA 16148.
