Gerald L. Hazlett

Redeemer church member worked for Sharon Steel

---- — Gerald L. Hazlett of 15 Pine St., Wheatland, formerly of 78 Morton St., Wheatland, died at 6 p.m. Saturday (6-22-13) in the hospital of Sharon Regional Health System. He was 87.

Mr. Hazlett was born Aug. 26, 1925, in Franklin, a son of Benjamin A. and Dana C. Abel Hazlett.

He was a longtime and active member of Redeemer Ministry Center of St. Jude’s Episcopal Church, Hermitage, formerly known as Church of the Redeemer Episcopal Church, where he had served on the vestry.

He was a former member of American Legion Post 432, Wheatland; and a former member of Independent Order of Odd Fellows.

Mr. Hazlett was employed for more than 30 years at the former Sharon Steel Corp.’s Farrell plant as a maintenance supervisor and later for 10 years as a courier for First National Bank.

He was a World War II Army veteran, having served in France.

His wife, the former Doris M. Scott, whom he married Dec. 20, 1947, died Nov. 11, 1997.

Surviving are: his daughters, Dana Brindza and her husband Robert, Wheatland, with whom he lived; and Patti Monaco and her husband Jack, Hermitage; his son, Gerald L. Hazlett Jr. and his wife Cheryl, Sharpsville; his grandchildren, Robbie Brindza and his wife Deena; Tricia Lane and her husband Craig; Curt Hazlett; Jaci Hanna and her husband David; and Nana Monaco, Patrick Grandy and John Monaco; and six great-grandchildren.

Besides his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers, Glenn, Robert and Duane Hazlett; and his sisters, Marion Hood and an infant.
