Harold ‘Harry’ Jakob Schmidt

Sharon man was baker, liked to boat, fish, garden


---- — Harold “Harry” Jakob Schmidt of 279 Fleming Way, Sharon, passed away Friday afternoon (6-21-13) in Allegheny General Hospital, Pittsburgh, from pneumonia and lung complications. He was 60.

Harold was born March 3, 1953, in Sharon, a son of the late Jakob and Gertrude (Kuschnerus) Schmidt, who survives him in Brookfield.

Being a lifelong baker, he had worked in the bakery of Santisi’s IGA in Girard, Ohio, for several years.

Harry was a member of United Food and Commercial Workers, Local 880.

He considered himself to be a No. 1 Pittsburgh Steelers fan, and also enjoyed boating, fishing, growing a garden, playing the lottery, and riding his Harley-Davidson. He will be remembered as a loving father and grandfather.

In addition to his mother, he is survived by two daughters, Kimberly Springer and her husband Jim; and Carrie Schmidt; and a grandson, Caysen Schmidt, all Hermitage; four sisters, Helga Kirkey, Oxford, Mich.; Ingrid Kostra, Masury; Lori McFarland and her husband David, Kinsman; and Chrissie Bielobocky and her husband Dan, Brookfield; two brothers, Herbert Schmidt and his wife Mimi, Sharon; and Edward Schmidt, Brookfield; and several nieces, great-nieces, nephews and great-nephews.

Besides his father, he was preceded in death by a brother, Norbert Schmidt; and a nephew, Jacob Schmidt.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in his memory to the American Lung Association of Pennsylvania, Fight For Air, 810 River Ave., Suite 140, Pittsburgh, PA 15212.
