Louise M. Hughes

Organizations member was school cafeteria manager

---- — Louise M. Hughes of Hermitage passed away at 3:30 a.m. Sunday, June 23, 2013, in UPMC Horizon, Farrell, after a sudden illness. She was 89.

Mrs. Hughes was born Aug. 28, 1923, in New Castle to George and Elizabeth Zacour Jacob.

She graduated from New Castle High School.

During World War II, she worked in Washington, D.C., for the Veterans’ Administration. She later returned to New Castle and worked at the Shenango China store along with her future husband, James Hughes of New Castle, whom she married Jan. 16, 1947. They later moved to Sharon.

Louise worked at several downtown ladies stores including The Sharon Store before being hired in the cafeteria for Sharon School District. She worked in the cafeteria for 33 years and was a manager for more than 20 years.

Louise was a former member of East Side Church, Sharon; and an active member of many organizations through the years including a local chapter of AARP.

She was an avid reader in her younger years and loved to go dancing with her husband. Louise will be greatly missed by her family and friends.

Surviving are: a daughter, Sharon Tyliszczak and her husband John, Brookfield; a son, James E. Hughes and his wife Cynthia, Las Vegas; grandchildren, John M. Tyliszczak and his wife Angela, Cincinnati; Teva M. Tyliszczak, Charlotte, N.C.; Justin Hughes, Toluca Lake, Calif.; and Chris Hughes and his wife Yuko, Las Vegas.

Besides her husband, James Edward Hughes, who passed away Oct. 1, 2002, she was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Mary Moses and Lottie Tabisz; and two brothers, Edward “Jake” Jacob and Richard Jacob.

Service: Funeral service at 11 a.m. Wednesday in the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Andrew Gall, pastor of St. John’s Ukrainian Orthodox Church, Sharon, officiating.

Burial: Oakwood Cemetery, Hermitage.
