A memorial service will be held Saturday for Richard “Rick” Albert Heitzenrater,15 W. Connelly Blvd., Sharon. He passed away at 12:40 p.m. Saturday (5-31-14) in the hospital of Sharon Regional Health System after an extended illness. He was 64.
A lifelong city resident, Mr. Heitzenrater was born Feb. 26, 1950, in Sharon, a son of Elmer C. and Laurel W. Blue Heitzenrater.
Rick was a member of Sharon High School’s graduating class of 1968. He attended the Shenango campus of Penn State University, Sharon, and Youngstown State University.
A trained auto mechanic, he was employed by several local businesses including J.C. Penney Co., Hermitage. More recently, he worked at both the YMCA, Hermitage, and Community Library of the Shenango Valley, Sharon.
A decorated veteran, Mr. Heitzenrater served with the U.S. Navy from Feb. 27, 1970, until Feb. 25, 1972, and was honorably discharged with the National Defense Service Medal.
He attended St. John’s Episcopal Church, Sharon.
Rick enjoyed the simpler things in life such as listening to his favorite music, fishing and spending time with his family and friends.
He is survived by: his mother, Laurel W. Mason, Masury; his three sisters, Linda Fout and her husband Eugene, Meadville; Cheryl Campman and her husband David, Lawtey, Fla.; and Marlane Young, Masury; his brother, Roger Heitzenrater and his wife Anna, Port Mansfield, Texas; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father.
