Carl Chakan of West Middlesex died Friday morning (8-9-13) in LAS St. John Specialty Care, Mars, Pa. He was 92.
Born in Sharon on June 16, 1921, he was a son of the late Michael and Bessie Garrett Chakan.
Carl was a millwright for the former AK Steel, now Wheatland Tube Co. in Wheatland.
He served in the U.S. Air Force during World War II and was a member of American Legion posts 160 in Farrell and 299 in Sharon.
He was a member of Church of the Good Shepherd, West Middlesex.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Gloria Petrinjak Chakan; a son, Neal L. Chakan, a sister, Twila Heather; a brother, William Chakan; and a grandson.
Surviving are: a son, Rodney “Rod” Chakan and his wife, Peg, Cranberry Township, Butler County; a daughter, Carla Johnson and her husband, Paul, Tavernier, Fla.; a sister, Bernice Perman, Orlando, Fla.; seven grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
