Joseph “Gootch” Mudrak of Hermitage passed from this life at 8:35 a.m. Saturday (7-6-13) in his home after an extended illness. He was 86.
Joe was born in Hermitage on May 6, 1927, to Michael and Tessie Mudrak.
On July 10, 1948, he married the former Margaret M. “Peg” Torok. She survives at home.
He was a member of St. Stanislaus Kostka-Holy Trinity Church in Sharon.
A graduate of Hickory High School, class of 1945, he served in the Navy during World War II. He earned a bachelor of education degree from Youngstown State University.
He worked for the former Sharon Transformer Division of Westinghouse Electric Corp. and was a truck driver for the former McLean Trucking Co.
He taught elementary school for several local school systems.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son, Joseph A. Mudrak and his wife Jacqueline, Jefferson Township; three daughters, Deborah Gregori and her husband Richard, Sarver, Butler County; Rhona and her husband Pat Glancy, Edgerton, Mo.; and Vicky and her husband Tom Kimmel, Clarion. Joe also leaves two brothers, Paul, Mercer; and Alec and his wife Patty, Titusville, Fla.
Seven grandchildren survive: Andrew and his wife Elaine Gregori; Pete and his wife Christy Gregori; Katie and her husband Tony Lascola; Shawn and his wife Kathe Glancy; Terri and her husband Jeff Brown; John and his wife Amber Kimmel; and Eric Mudrak.
He is also survived by 13 great-grandchildren: Molly Glancy; Taylor and Baden Brown; Emma Kimmel; Alison, Daniel, Marisa, Audrey, Thomas and Victoria Gregori; and Rosalia, Nicolas and Amelia Lascola.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by seven brothers, Michael, Steve, Walter, Harry, John, Andy and Ray Mudrak and three sisters, Anna Malenski, Olga O’Grady and Nellie Teglo.
Joe’s family requests memorial tributes be sent to St. Stanislaus Kostka-Holy Trinity Church; or Sharon Regional Hospice Care, 663 E. State St., Sharon.

Service: Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Tuesday (7-9-13) in St. Stanislaus Kostka-Holy Trinity Church, 370 Spruce Ave., Sharon, with the Rev. Glenn R. Whitman, pastor, as celebrant.
Burial: Hillcrest Memorial Cemetery, Hermitage, with the Sharon Honor Guard providing military honors.
