Margaret G. Christy

Centenarian was school secretary, church organist


---- — Margaret G. Christy of Brookfield passed away Wednesday afternoon, July 10, 2013, in her home. She was 101.

Mrs. Christy was born March 12, 1912, in Sydney, N.Y., a daughter of Robert N. and Margaret A. Clark Christy. She was a lifetime resident of the Brookfield community and a descendent of four pioneer families who had settled in Brookfield in the mid 1700s.

She attended Brookfield schools and married John M. Christy on Aug. 18, 1933.

Margaret was a former secretary in Brookfield Local School System, but spent the majority of her life being a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great-grandmother.

As a longtime member of Brookfield Christian Church, Mrs. Christy had been the church organist and attended Sunday school.

During her spare time, she enjoyed writing letters and sending cards to family and friends.   

Mrs. Christy is survived by: her daughters, Barbra Robbins, Masury; and Cheryl Christy, Brookfield; her daughter-in-law, Shirley Van Slyke, Masury; her grandsons, Gary Reiser and his wife Kathy; and Brian Reiser and his wife Tracy; four great-grandchildren, Christy Ann Brown and her husband Emanuel; Monica Lou Jordan and her husband Anthony; and Michael Gary Reiser and Meghan Elizabeth Reiser; and two great-great-grandchildren, Riley and Grant.

She was preceded in death by her husband, John; her son, Donald Duane Christy; her grandson, Dan Reiser; her brothers, Ward and John Christy; her sisters, Olive Beal and Kathryn Smith; and her son-in-law, Jerry Robbins.
