Edward A. Lewis

Lakeview alumnus was well known floral designer

- — Edward A. Lewis, 3125 S. Main St., Sandy Lake, passed away unexpectedly of natural causes Monday, Dec. 16, 2013, in his home. He was 70.

Born Aug. 17, 1943 in Meadville, Mr. Lewis was a son of Pierce E. “Dick” Lewis and Norma J. Rupert Lewis.

He was a 1961 graduate of Lakeview High School and a graduate of the Hixson School of Floral Design, Cleveland.

Ed was working for Bon-Appetit, the food service supplier for Grove City College, for more than 15 years. Most of all, Ed was a remarkably talented floral designer and had worked for most of his life as an owner and operator of flower shops; he currently operated Floral Designs by Ed in Sandy Lake. For many years, he taught floral design.

He had been a member of the former New Lebanon Presbyterian Church.

Ed loved animals and was a member of the Humane Society of the United States. He was a member of Independent Order of Odd Fellows Lodge 573, Sandy Lake; belonged to the former Sandy Lake Rotary Club; and was a member and vice president of Stoneboro Garden and Preservation Society.

Ed was very generous with his time and talent. He made an endless number of bouquets and arrangements for special occasions and was always sending cards, including notes, to shut-ins and to those who were ill.

He was a loving brother and uncle and loved all his nieces and nephews.

Survivors include: his partner of 11 years, Bernie Lukacs, Pittsburgh; three sisters, Sherry J. Wiand and her husband Thomas, Stoneboro; Kathy A. Lewis, Sandy Lake; and Pamela Libertore and her husband Thomas, Churchton, Md.; and his loving nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father; his mother, Norma J. Lewis Porter; and his stepfather, Harry G. Porter.

Calling hours: 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday (12-18-13) in SCOTT A. BLACK FUNERAL HOME, 99 Franklin St., Stoneboro.

Service: Funeral and committal services at 11 a.m. Thursday (12-19-13) in the funeral home with the Rev. Dr. Richard C. Steinlechner, pastor of New Lebanon Community Church, officiating.

Interment: New Lebanon Cemetery, Mill Creek Township.
