Wayne E. Adamson

- — Wayne was born Dec. 27, 1931 in Utica, Pa., and was the youngest child of William A. and Bertha Hockenberry Adamson. He was a lifelong resident of this area which he loved for its beauty and people.

As a child, he attended New Lebanon Community Church and various one-room schoolhouses. He graduated from the former Sandy Lake High School as a member of the class of 1951.

In 1956 he married the love of his life, Eleanor Kelley on May 20. They always enjoyed life together at home and as they traveled. Whether it was camping at their favorite destination of Heart’s Content or visiting more than 30 states, several Canadian provinces, and Mexico, they appreciated the sights and made friends wherever they went.

Wayne was proud to serve in the Army during peacetime in the 1950s and also as a member and line officer for the Sandy Lake Volunteer Fire Company during the 1970s. He was an automobile mechanic and a tow truck operator for Walker Chevrolet in Sandy Lake for more than 30 years.

Wayne enjoyed many diverse interests, both outdoors and indoors. He loved hunting, woodworking and assembling jigsaw puzzles.  He designed, pieced, and hand-quilted a full-sized quilt for each of his daughters and their husbands, Cynthia and Terry Philson and Elizabeth and Andrew Egger.

Wayne enjoyed and embraced life every day, making note of the weather and special events in his journals. He was in the process of chronicling the lives of his two beloved grandchildren, Michaela Elizabeth Philson and Andrew Wayne Egger.

Wayne was proud to have completed his autobiography recently.

He was a loving, devoted and wonderful husband, father, father-in-law, grandfather, and friend who will always be greatly missed.

Wayne was preceded in death by his parents and four siblings, Verne, Robert, William and an infant sister.

He is survived by his wife, Eleanor, daughters and sons-in-law, Cynthia “Cindy” and Chuck “Terry” Philson, Stoneboro, and Elizabeth “Beth” and Andrew Egger, Erie; two grandchildren, Michaela Philson and Andrew Egger; a sister, Esther Pearce, Mercer; and several nieces and nephews.
