Silvio Marcoccia

Sharon Steel retiree born in Italy liked polka dancing

- — Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Wednesday for Silvio Marcoccia of Farrell, who passed away unexpectedly of natural causes Friday morning (1-10-14) in his residence. He was 83.

Mr. Marcoccia was born Aug. 11, 1930, in Veroli, province of Frosinone, Lazio, Italy, one of four children born to Giovanni Battista Marcoccia and Marianna Calicchia Marcoccia.

He received his education in Italy and immigrated to the United States in 1947.

Silvio retired in 1986 from the former Sharon Steel Corp.’s Farrell plant where he worked in the masonry department for 39 years.

He was a member of the Italian Home, Farrell; and USWA Local 1193. He enjoyed polka dancing at Yankee Lake, Avon Lake, Kuzmann’s and other dance halls. He enjoyed gardening and took great pride in his meticulous yard.

Silvio was a member of Our Lady of Fatima-St. Ann’s Church, Farrell.

He is survived by his two daughters, Lora A. Podralski, Hermitage; and Gisella M. Marcoccia, Hartstown; his son, Silvio L. Marcoccia, Hermitage; four grandchildren, Jennifer and Kristen Murray, Joseph VanMeter, and Chad Reed; and five great-grandchildren, Gianni Glorisio; Kali, Madison and Michelle Reed; and Mia VanMeter. A sister, Adele Marcoccia, survives in Italy.  

He was preceded in death by his parents and his two brothers, Umberto and Giuseppe Marcoccia.

Service: Mass of Christian burial at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday in Our Lady of Fatima-St. Ann’s Church, 601 Roemer Blvd., Farrell, with the Rev. Donald E. Berdis, pastor, as celebrant.

Interment: St. Anthony’s Cemetery, Hermitage.
