William A. ‘Bam’ Rotell

St. Adalbert’s member owned restaurants

- — William A. “Bam” Rotell joined our Lord and his nine brothers and sisters at 2 p.m. Monday (3-10-14). He left this world peacefully from his home in Farrell as a result of natural causes. He was 96.

Mr. Rotell was born April 17, 1917, in Farrell to Anthony and Angeline Grande Rotell.

He graduated from Farrell High School in 1935.

He started working at Westinghouse Electric Corp.’s former Sharon Transformer Division as a group leader, then went on to own Rotell’s Grille in Farrell and Bam’s Inn and the Lamp Post Inn in Transfer.

He was a member of St. Adalbert’s Church, Farrell.

He was a member of the Lions Club in Farrell, and a former member of the Wolves Club.

Bam enjoyed traveling, playing poker into the early hours of the morning, frequenting casinos, riding around town and visiting his older siblings, often sampling his sisters’ Italian cooking.

He spent his younger years on Idaho Street in Farrell.

Bam traveled extensively, including to Cuba prior to the embargo, Europe, his homeland of Italy, the Bahamas and Las Vegas dozens of times. He also loved Walt Disney World in Florida.

Bam’s parents died when he was an infant and he was raised by his sister, Lucy “Chich.”

Surviving are: his wife, Rose Marie Dresel Rotell, 17 years his junior, whom he married on April 30, 1960; a daughter Ava Marie Rotell Dustin and her husband David, Maumee, Ohio; and a son, Joseph E. Rotell of Farrell.

He was welcomed into heaven by: his parents; his sisters, Lucy Bruno, Rose Stowe, Jennie Chess and Ann Vavrich; and his brothers, Sam, Joseph, Frank, Tony and Jackie Rotell.

Service: Funeral Mass at 10 a.m. Friday (3-14-14) in the church with the Rev. Charles Skinner officiating.

Burial: Hillcrest Memorial Park, Farrell.
