William Nespor

Sharon Steel retiree was active in Little League

- — William Nespor of 190 Boyd Drive, Hermitage, passed away unexpectedly at 10:43 p.m. Thursday (3-6-14) in the emergency room of Sharon Regional Health System. He was 85.

Mr. Nespor was born March 29, 1928, in Youngstown, a son of Joseph Nespor.

He attended Hermitage schools.   

Mr. Nespor was employed at the former Sharon Steel Corp.’s Farrell plant, where he worked in plant protection for 25 years. He retired in 1991.

He owned and operated the former Pennzoil service station on the corner of Budd Street and New Castle Avenue in Sharon from 1951 to 1958 and the popular Corner Tavern that is now known as Our Gang’s Bar and Grill, Sharon, from 1958 to 1966.

Mr. Nespor was active with Hermitage Little League for 17 years as a coach, umpire, manager and past president.

An avid bowler and golfer, he and his wife enjoyed bowling with the Thornton Hall Senior Bowling League as well as playing golf with the Monday Senior League at the former Birchwood Golf Course.

Mr. Nespor served with the Air Force during the time of the Berlin airlift.

His wife, the former Dolores J. Perkins, whom he married June 17, 1950, passed away May 22, 2012.

Surviving are: four sons, Bruce E. Nespor and his wife Beverly, Sarasota, Fla.; Richard W. Nespor, San Diego; Scott A. Nespor and his wife Holly, Franklin; and Brian D. Nespor and his wife Michele, Mercer; a sister, Francine Morgan and her husband Marvin, Janesville, Wis.; three brothers, Joseph Nespor and his wife Myrle, Wolford Heights, Calif.; Ronald Nespor, Osprey, Fla.; and John Nespor and his wife Karen, Sharon; 13 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren; and his stepmother, Frances Nespor, Hermitage.

In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his father and his sister, Rose Marie Vallincourt.

The family suggests memorial contributions be made to a charity of the donor’s choice.

Service: Funeral service at 11 a.m. Tuesday (3-11-14) in the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Sandy Samuel, retired Lutheran minister, officiating. Military honors will be rendered prior to the service by the Honor Guard of Veterans of Foreign Wars Hickory Post 6166, Hermitage.

Entombment: Castle View Memorial Gardens, New Castle.
