Shirley Marie Johnson

HHS grad was baker’s assistant at Max-Ann’s


- — Shirley Marie Johnson, formerly of Pulaski, passed away at 6:25 a.m. Friday, March 21, 2014, in Countryside Convalescent Home, East Lackawannock Township, after an extended illness. She was 83.

She was born June 29, 1930, in Hickory Township, now Hermitage, to Arthur and June Hassell Hogue.

Shirley worked at the former Max-Ann pastries in the former Hickory Plaza as a baker’s assistant.

She graduated from Hickory High School, Hermitage, in 1948.

Shirley enjoyed reading, going to camp in the mountains and spending time with her family.

Her husband, George W. “Buck” Johnson, whom she married Jan. 1, 1949, passed away Jan. 5, 1999.

Surviving are: a daughter, Barbara Hinkson and her husband Jack, Mercer; a son, Dan Johnson, Poland, Ohio; a sister, Mary Jane Roth and her husband Dr. Michael Roth, Sharpsville; four grandchildren, Jarrett Johnson and his wife Amy, Greenville; Scott Hinkson and his wife Wendy, and Steven Hinkson, all Mercer; and Kim Fobes, Pulaski; four great-grandchildren.

Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; a daughter, Bonnie Fobes; a sister, Phyllis Russell; and two grandchildren, Kristal Chappal and Shawn Fobes.
