Jackson Center woman served as tax collector


- — Mary K. Gealy, Jackson Center, passed away peacefully at 8:20 a.m. Friday (3-21-14) in the hospital of Sharon Regional Health System after an extended illness. She was 71.

Born June 11, 1942, in Jackson Center, she was a daughter of Leonard V. and Josephine E. McCarl Whitehouse.

Mrs. Gealy was a 1960 graduate of Lakeview High School.

She worked as a nurse’s aide at the former Grove City Hospital and as a bookkeeper at the Greenville Steel Car Company Credit Union. Also, for many years she served as Jackson Township Tax Collector.

Most of all, Mary was a homemaker and was a loving wife, mother and grandmother and she especially loved spending time with her grandchildren.

Mary had a talent for decorating and enjoyed making floral arrangements and landscaping her home.

Her husband, Ronald James Gealy, whom she married Aug. 3, 1963, preceded her in death Dec. 11, 1999.

She was also preceded in death by her parents, a sister Betty Sechler and a nephew Jeffrey Reiser

She is survived by a daughter, Barbara Kepner and her fiancé Todd Kremis, Jackson Center; a son, Joseph Gealy and his wife Lynn, Greer, S.C.; three grandchildren, Jeffery Kepner, Kaylin Gealy and Landon Gealy; two sisters, Janet Reiser and her husband Larry, Stoneboro and Ellen Davis and her husband George, Jackson Center; a brother Leonard Whitehouse, Stoneboro; a brother-in-law Joseph Sechler, Stoneboro and also several nieces and nephews.

Service: A private memorial service will be held.

Inurnment: Oak Hill Cemetery, Sandy Lake Township.
