Doris M. Krieder passed away Thursday evening (5-8-14) in UPMC Horizon Greenville. She was 97.
Doris was born Dec. 18, 1916, near Brookfield. She was the tenth and youngest child born to William G. Whitmore and Maude Cooper Whitmore. She had five sisters and four brothers. Both William and Maude were born in England. None survive.
Doris and Elmer Krieder were married Sept. 14, 1937, at the parsonage for St. Paul’s United Church of Christ in Sharon by the Rev. Shoemaker.
She enjoyed being with family and friends and traveling. She had fond memories of many trips with O.D. Anderson, especially trips to Alaska and Switzerland.
She made many quilts for family members and enjoyed needlepoint and sewing.
Doris was very active in the life of St. Paul’s Church where she was in Women’s Guild, taught Sunday school and was involved in many mission projects. She also did work for the American Cancer Society and Meals on Wheels. She was a member of Century Chapter, Order of the Eastern Star No. 63.
She was a resident of Maple Leaf Manor, Greenville, for many years and had great friendships there. Since last October she enjoyed life at St. Paul Homes, Greenville, where she was currently a resident at The Heritage.
Doris and Elmer were happily married for 57 years. Elmer passed away on Jan. 6, 1994. They had two sons, the late Ronald Krieder and his wife Marion, Greenville and Robert and Linda Krieder, Sullivan, Ohio; five grandchildren Carolyn and her husband Dr. Theodore Moran, Sterling, Alaska; Frank Krieder and his wife Monica, Hermitage; Elizabeth and her husband James Wright, Wooster, Ohio; Cathleen and her husband Craig Todd, Hershey, Mich. and Scott Krieder, Chicago; six great-grandchildren Rachel, Allison, Adam, Tori, Benjamin and Gabriella. She also had one great-great granddaughter, Jaelyn. Charles Burns and his wife Carol and Sherry Irvine were a very special niece and nephew. Ann Mayberry has been her best friend for more than 50 years. Doris will be missed by all.
