Ezma M. Pears

Farrell hospital employee, volunteer taught at church

---- — CORTLAND, Ohio – Ezma M. Pears, formerly of Hermitage, passed away peacefully at 11:22 a.m. Wednesday, May 1, 2013, in Lake Vista Nursing Home, Cortland, after a brief illness. She was 84.

Mrs. Pears was born July 2, 1928, in Sharon to James and Alberta Mullen Bewley.

She graduated from Sharon High School, class of 1946.

Ezma worked in housekeeping for the former Shenango Valley Osteopathic Hospital, now UPMC Horizon, Farrell. She also worked for Bell Telephone and L&L Laundromat and Dry Cleaner.

On Sept. 18, 1954, she married Robert F. Pears, who passed away May 5, 1981.

As a member of St. John’s Episcopal Church, Sharon, she served as a Sunday school teacher.

She also belonged to the Ladies Auxiliary of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1338, Sharon, for which she was a past president, and was a Girl Scout leader.

Ezma volunteered at Shenango Valley Osteopathic Hospital and enjoyed crossword puzzles, her pet dogs and cats, reading and flower gardening.

Surviving are her three daughters, Mary Jo Pears, Franklin; Deb and her husband Matthew Ray, Colebrook, Ohio; and  Roberta Pears, Hermitage; a sister, Bertha Bewley, Sharon; a granddaughter, Olivia Ray; a grandson, Joey Ray; and several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.

Besides her husband, Robert F. Pears, she was preceded in death by her father, James Bewley; her mother, Alberta Bewley; and her brothers, Jesse Bewley and James “Fred” Bewley.

The family would like to thank the staff at Lake Vista of Cortland for their kindness and care during Ezma’s brief stay.
