Carl Cagno

Purple Heart recipient worked at Cooper Energy

---- — Carl Cagno of 500 Clarksville Road, Hermitage, formerly of Sharon and Grove City, passed away at 1:20 p.m. Tuesday, May 14, 2013, in Nugent Convalescent Home, Hermitage. He was 93.

He was born Feb. 1, 1920, in Farrell, a son of Vincenzo and Antoinette Testa Cagno.

He attended Farrell High School.

Carl joined the Army and served in the Pacific with the 36th Division from 1942 to 1945. During his service in the Army, Carl was an airline engine mechanic and received many decorations including the American Defense Ribbon, Asiatic-Pacific Theater Ribbon with one Bronze Star, Philippine Liberation Ribbon, Good Conduct Ribbon and a Bronze Star Medal. He was a Purple Heart recipient.

Following his honorable discharge, he was employed for 31 years as a craneman for the former Cooper Energy Services in Grove City.

Carl was a member of Church of Notre Dame, Hermitage, and formerly belonged to Church of the Beloved Disciple in Pine Township. He was a member of Knights of Columbus Council 3658 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 519, both Grove City; and American Legion Post 299, Sharon.

His wife, Mary J. DeSalvo Cagno, whom he married May 11, 1946, passed away July 15, 2007.

Surviving are: two daughters, Marsha J. Moore and her husband John, Milwaukee, Wis.; and Valerie A. Bandzak and her husband Melvin, Sharon; two grandchildren, Neal B. Bandzak and his wife Jamie, Mars, Allegheny County; and Erik C. Bandzak and his wife Stephanie, Hagerstown, Md.; and three great-grandchildren, Joseph, Samuel and Jameson Bandzak. Carl is also survived by a goddaughter, Judith Pandelios, Hummelstown, Pa.

In addition to his wife, Carl was preceded in death by his parents; four sisters, Christina, Jenny, Josephine and Nina; and three brothers, Carmen, Michael and James.

The family suggests memorial contributions be made to Hillcrest Dog Park and Wellness Center, 2630 E. State St., Hermitage, PA 16148.
