Lois M. Shafer, Line Road, Mercer (Delaware Township), passed away at 9:14 a.m. Saturday (2-22-14) at her residence with her family by her side. She was 80.
Lois was born in Hadley on June 19, 1933, a daughter of the late William L. and Mabel Elizabeth Metzler Riley. On June 2, 1956, she married Lewis Shafer who preceded her in death on Sept. 18, 2011. She was of the Protestant faith.
Lois enjoyed the responsibilities of raising her children and loved being a mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She enjoyed the out of doors whether it would involve maintaining the family yard or taking time to hunt in her younger years. She was an avid softball player passing her skills and passion on to her children.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, two sons, Ronald Shafer and Daniel Shafer; four sisters, Mary Ellen Riley, Ethel Cadman, Dorothy Breauchy and Ruth Harvey; a brother, Dean Riley; and a son-in-law Claude (Corky) Hites.
She is survived by three daughters, Janet Hites and her companion Don Sarvey, Warren, Ohio; Linda Davison and her husband Norman, Mercer; and Maxine Glaser and her husband Steve, Mercer; a son, Rodger Shafer, Mercer; a brother, Paul Riley, Greenville; eight grandchildren, Edie Butcher and her husband Al, Mercer; Kenneth Hites and his wife Lisa, Mercer; Daniel Hites, Beckley, W.Va.; Lewis Hites and his wife Marcie, Mercer; Nicholas Glaser and his fiancée Jessica Gerlach, Winchester, Va.; Nathan Glaser and his fiancee Megan Carone, Pittsburgh; Mark Glaser and his wife Amie, Greenville and Josh Shafer and his companion Deanna Loreno, Mercer; 13 great-grandchildren; and a former son-in-law, Mark Glaser, Mercer.

Interment: Millbank Cemetery.
