Grove City businessman was WWII vet, craftsman

- — Glenn L. Shawgo of Pine Township (Grove City) passed away at 3:38 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 27, 2014, in Grove City Medical Center, Pine Township, after a brief illness. He was 91.

Mr. Shawgo was born Nov. 21, 1922, in Grove City to John C. and Margaret A. Montgomery Shawgo.

Glenn was a graduate of Grove City High School, class of 1941.

Following high school, he was a pattern maker at the former Cooper Bessemer plant in Grove City. Glenn later entered into business working with his brothers at the former Shawgo Brothers Construction Co., Grove City. He retired as owner and operator of G.L. Shawgo Mill and Construction Co., formerly located on Oak Street in Grove City.

Mr. Shawgo served in the Army during World War II.

He was a member of Grove City Alliance Church.

Throughout his life, Glenn was an exceptional craftsman and woodworker. He enjoyed carving wood and spending time on any woodworking projects.

His wife, the former Ruth N. Reimers, whom he married May 5, 1951, survives at home.

Also surviving are many nieces, nephews and other extended family members.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, J. Wayne Shawgo; four sisters, Virginia Spikeloser, Alberta Corll, Lucille Nordrum and Mary Louise Brownson; and six brothers, Willard E., John D., Claude, Gerald C., Edgar L. and Charles Loyal Shawgo.

Memorial contributions may be made in Glenn’s memory to Grove City Alliance Church (Church Building Fund), 845 N. Liberty Road, Grove City, PA 16127.

Service: Funeral service at 2:30 p.m. Saturday in the funeral home with the Rev. Ed Dixon, assistant pastor of Grove City Alliance Church, officiating.

Interment: Crestview Memorial Park Inc., Pine Township.
