Ronald F. Krieder

RHS teacher earned patent for tool, served in church

---- — Funeral services will be Thursday for Ronald F. Krieder, 30 Salem Road, Delaware Township, who passed away Saturday (4-6-13) at UPMC Horizon, Greenville, surrounded by his family. He was 73.

He was born Aug. 4, 1939 in Sharon to Elmer L. and Doris M. Whitmore Krieder.

He graduated with the Sharon High School, class of 1957, playing on the undefeated football team.

He went on to attend California University of Pa., where he graduated in 1960, with a bachelor’s degree in education, majoring in industrial arts.  

While at California University, Ron co-founded the Sigma Tau Gamma fraternity.

He was a founding faculty member of Reynolds High School in 1960, teaching architectural drawing and other drafting classes for 33 years, retiring in 1992.  

He was named teacher of the year in 1981.  

Ron developed a drafting tool for which he was awarded a patent with the federal government.  

He was also the chess club and stage crew adviser.

Ron was a member of Zion’s Reformed United Church of Christ, Greenville, where he had served as Sunday school superintendent.

He was a member of Free and Accepted Mason’s Eureka Lodge 290, the New Castle Consistory, and Zem Zem Shriners of Erie. He was also a member of Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks 145.

He spent many summers traveling, camping and boating with his family.

He was a nature lover and enjoyed gardening, working and hunting on his farm as well as spending time at his camp on the Allegheny River.  

Always being the life of the party, he loved entertaining his family, friends, and co-workers, and always made them feel welcome.

He enjoyed sitting in his rocker on his front porch looking over his land.  

In his later years he enjoyed his computer and solving Sudoku puzzles.

He is survived by his wife, the former Marion J. Faber, whom he married on Dec. 29, 1959 in Sharon.  

Also surviving are his daughter, Carolyn A. Moran and her husband Dr. Theodore R. Moran, Sterling, Alaska; and his son, Frank R. Krieder and his wife Monica L., Hermitage.  

He is also survived by his mother, Doris M. Krieder, Greenville; and his brother, Robert D. Krieder and his wife Linda, Sullivan, Ohio.  

Also surviving are his three grandchildren, Rachel Lang, Allison Krieder and Adam Krieder, as well as his great granddaughter, Jaelyn Lewis.

In his lifetime many friends and former students considered him their Uncle Ron.

He was preceded in death is his father, Elmer L. Krieder.
