- — Clarence Wayne McCracken of Springfield Township, Volant, passed away early Tuesday evening, Nov. 12, 2013, in his residence. He was 88.

Mr. McCracken was born Sept. 9, 1925, in New Castle to William Meade McCracken and Alice Margaret Hope McCracken.

He retired in 1983 from the former Sharon Steel Corp.’s Farrell plant where he was employed as a material handler.

Mr. McCracken was a member of Bethany Presbyterian Church in Mercer for more than 50 years, serving as an elder.

He belonged to Volant Lions Club and was a past district governor for Lions District 14-N. He was currently active in leadership with Boy Scouts of America in Mercer, where he served for many years.

Clarence had a great love of the outdoors, including hunting and fishing, and enjoyed traveling and doing crossword puzzles.

His wife, the former Alfreda Mae Ramsey, whom he married Nov. 15, 1947, preceded him in death March 14, 2010.

Survivors include: his son, Gary W. McCracken and his wife Rhonda, Volant; two daughters, Sandra L. and her husband Jerry Hanna, Grove City; and Debra S. and her husband David Graham, Volant; six grandsons, Gary McCracken Jr.; Chad and Brandon Hanna; and Jeremy, Jason and Jayme Graham; a granddaughter, Melissa Rossi Sekera; nine great-grandchildren, Malachi, Michaela and Brayden Graham; Justin and Cameron Rossi; Bryce and Declan Sekera; and Macey and Tristan McCracken.

Besides his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents.

Calling hours: Family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Saturday (11-16-13) in SMITH FUNERAL HOME OF LEESBURG, 1778 Perry Highway, Springfield Township.

Service: Funeral service at 2 p.m. Sunday (11-17-13) in the funeral home with the Rev. G. Richard Vogeley, interim pastor of Bethany Presbyterian Church, Mercer, presiding.

Interment: Will follow at Leesburg Cemetery.
