Marie L. Guy

Nurse assistant was homemaker, seamstress

---- — A memorial service will be held Thursday for Marie L. Guy of Morton Street, Sharon. She passed away at 6:15 p.m. Saturday (7-20-13) in the hospital of Sharon Regional Health System after a brief illness with cancer. She was 70.

Mrs. Guy was born May 6, 1943, in Mimbach, Germany, a daughter of Karl A. and Hildegard Weinland Henrich.

She attended schools in Germany and graduated from high school in 1961. Following graduation, Mrs. Guy enrolled in a trade school in Germany, where she studied the art of sewing for three years.

She immigrated to the United States as a young woman in 1967. 

Marie earned a certificate as a certified nurse assistant from Indian River Hospital, Vero Beach, Fla. She worked in that capacity for several years at Hospitality Care Center, Hermitage, retiring in 2005.

She was a member of First Baptist Church, Sharon, and its council session.

Marie was a homemaker and an accomplished seamstress. She enjoyed reading, knitting and crocheting. She was a loving and caring mother to her children and their friends. She was known as the “neighborhood mom,” watching over all the children and pets in the neighborhood.

Marie met her husband, James Harold Guy Jr., while he was serving in the U.S. Army in Germany and married him in Germany on March 9, 1967. He passed away earlier this year on Feb. 13.

She is survived by: a daughter, Angelique Stephens and her husband Lance, Columbia, S.C.; a son, Kristofer Guy, Sharon; a sister, Lilli Hullen and her husband Richard, Sebastian, Fla.; a brother-in-law, Ronald Guy and his wife Giselle, Downingtown, Pa.; a former daughter-in-law, Samantha Guy, Wilmington, Del.; six grandchildren, Amanda, Kurtis, Kari, Ian, Nikolas and Liam; and three great-grandchildren, Michaela, Anthony and Alexander.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Gunther Henrich.

The family suggests memorial contributions be made to American Cancer Society, 320 Bilmar Drive, Pittsburgh, PA 16205-4620.
