PITTSBURGH – The Rev. Dr. Robert Scott Foltz of 422 Coolidge Ave. in Pittsburgh, died Sunday, April 14, 2013. He was 73 years of age.
Dr. Foltz was born Dec. 27, 1939, in Pittsburgh to Joseph W. and Nannette Harris Foltz.
He and his wife, Nancy Thomas Foltz, were married for 48 years.
Dr. Foltz graduated form Wilkinsburg High School. He received his bachelor of arts degree in 1962 from Westminster College, New Wilmington. In 1965, he was awarded his masters degree of divinity from Wesley Theological Seminary in Washington, D.C. He earned a master’s degree in social work from the University of Pittsburgh in 1972.
In 1962, Dr. Foltz was ordained into the ministry of the United Methodist Church. He served parishes in Rogersville, Meadville and Pittsburgh and served as the Protestant chaplain and program director at George Junior Republic, Pine Township, as well as executive director of the Ward Home for Children in Mount Lebanon.
From 1977 until his retirement in 2002, Dr. Foltz served as the chief executive officer and president of Goodwill Industries. He also served as interim pastor of The Smithfield Church, Pittsburgh. In every assignment, Dr. Foltz served with distinction.
He is survived by his wife, Nancy; and their two sons, Drayton Scott Foltz, Pittsburgh; and Nelson Foltz, Brooklyn N.Y.; as well as a brother, Joseph Foltz and his wife Dorothee, Sewickley Heights.
