Retired school employee was avid Steelers fan

---- — Elizabeth “Betty” A. Coon of Sharon passed away at 5:40 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 26, 2013, in her residence after a courageous two-year battle with cancer. She was 71.

A lifelong Sharon resident, she was a 1961 graduate of Sharon High School and a graduate of the former Wil-Mar Beauty Academy, Sharon.

Betty was employed by Sharon City School District for more than 30 years as a crossing guard, cafeteria worker and school bus driver, retiring in December 2012. She had previously worked as a beautician at the former Andreoletti’s Beauty Salon in the former Hickory Plaza, Hermitage, and Josephine Scott’s Beauty Salon in West Middlesex. She also worked at the former Delphi Packard Electric Systems in Warren, Ohio.

Betty was an avid fan of the Pittsburgh Steelers and was often asked to bring her “Steelers music” to play in Sharon’s elementary school on Fridays before the Steelers game.

She was a member of Church of Notre Dame, Hermitage.

Surviving are: her husband at home, William Coon, whom she married Oct. 17, 1970, in the former St. Michael’s Church in Farrell; a daughter, Michalene E. Coon, Cleveland; a son, Jesse W. Coon and his wife Melissa, Lowellville, Pa.; two grandsons, Jayden M. and Jesse A. Coon; a sister, Mary Lou Baldoff and her husband Charles, Hermitage; a brother, Michael J. Yonosik, Girard, Ohio; and two wonderful friends, Denise Matejka and Kathy Kiester.

Betty was preceded in death by her parents.
