Tethonie ‘Mr. T’ Holloway

WWII vet, mill worker served in Farrell church

---- — A funeral service will be held Saturday for Tethonie Holloway, affectionately known as “Mr. T” of Masury, formerly of Farrell. He passed away at 7:20 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 8, 2013, in Orange Village Care Center, Masury, after an extended illness. He was 94 years of age.

Mr. Holloway was born Feb. 23, 1919, in Plum Branch, S.C., to William and Zellena Tompkins Holloway.

Mr. Holloway attended South Carolina schools.

He enlisted in the Army June 16, 1944, during World War II, and was honorably discharged on Jan. 18, 1946. During his service he received the Asiatic-Pacific Theater Ribbon with one Bronze Star. Mr. Holloway was a proud veteran and an active member of a local Veterans of Foreign Wars post until his illness. He was often seen wearing a World War II veterans cap.

Mr. Holloway relocated to the Shenango Valley upon his discharge from the military.

He was employed for more than 40 years at the former Sharon Steel Corp.’s Farrell plant.

He was a member of Friendship Baptist Church, Farrell, where he served on the usher board and was a trustee.

He leaves his loving daughter, Frances Z. Holloway, East Elmhurst, N.Y.; a grandson, Joseph Holloway Jr., Farrell; his only surviving sibling, Louise Martin, Ohio; a sister-in-law, Martha Holloway, Philadelphia; and a host of nieces and nephews including special nieces and a nephew, Wanda Holloway Johnson and James and Christine Johnson.

Mr. Holloway was preceded in death by his parents; two sons, Tethonie Holloway Jr. and Joseph Holloway Sr.; five brothers, William, Calvin, Floyd, Lennie and James; and five sisters, Josie Wells, Nellie Pope, Maude Pope, Larhunta Talbert and Etta Tompkins.

Service: Funeral service at 11 a.m. Saturday in the church with the Rev. Donald E. Campbell, pastor, officiating. Full military honors will be rendered by Veterans of Foreign Wars Murray-Bell Post 7597, Farrell.

Interment: Morefield Cemetery, Hermitage.
