Betty V. Daggett

Sharon native, homemaker loved to bake, play bingo

- — OSAWATOMIE, Kan. – Betty V. Daggett of Osawatomie, formerly of the Shenango Valley, died Saturday, Oct. 12, 2013, in Life Care Center of Osawatomie. She was 75.

Mrs. Daggett was born Jan. 18, 1938, in Sharon, the youngest child of three to Robert and Elizabeth “Boots” Morgan Allen.

Betty grew up in the Hermitage, Farrell and West Middlesex areas, graduating from West Middlesex High School with the class of 1955.

Betty married Gerry Tucci and they had one son who died at birth. The marriage ended in divorce.

She married Donald Lee Daggett in Las Vegas. They became the parents of one son, Joseph. The marriage ended in divorce. However, in 1987, the couple reunited and around 1990 moved to Osawatomie. They remained together until Donald’s death in 2012.

Betty was a fanatic about bingo; she loved playing and socializing with all her “bingo friends.”

She enjoyed the holidays and was quite a cookie and candy maker. After she baked all the cookies, she started making her pumpkin breads, candies, rum balls and fudge. She would package these wonderful confections and give them away as gifts to everyone – family, friends, neighbors and acquaintances. She did not send out holiday cards, but homemade love.

Betty was a homemaker, a caregiver and a loving mother, grandmother and friend.

She was a member of the Women’s Auxiliary of American Legion Unit 432, Wheatland; and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 6233, West Middlesex.

She is survived by a son, Joseph “Joe” Daggett and his wife Kelly, Osawatomie; five grandchildren, Angela Argenson, Derrick Thoele, Alexandra Long; and Justin and Christopher Daggett; and six stepdaughters and a stepson.

Betty was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, an infant son and two brothers, George Allen and Robert “Bob” Allen.

Mrs. Donald Lee (Betty V.), 75, Osawatomie, Kansas, formerly of the Shenango Valley.

Calling hours: 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday (10-17-13) in SMITH FUNERAL HOME, 3126 Main St., West Middlesex.

Service: Funeral service at 1 p.m. Friday (10-18-13) in the funeral home.

Interment: To follow at Haywood Cemetery, West Middlesex.
